Mats Hummels: move to Man United rumours dismissed by Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund have rejected reports that they will allow Mats Hummels to join Manchester United in the summer.

The Daily Mail on Tuesday claimed that Hummels was ready to quit the Westfalenstadion, and was in line to make a £36 million switch to Old Trafford at the end of the season.

The 26-year-old has been a United target for the last two transfer windows, but until now Dortmund have fended off the interest.

While he has not committed to BVB long-term, Hummels has also gone on record several times saying that he does not think about leaving the club he joined as a youngster from Bayern Munich in 2008.

But with the club almost certain to miss out on qualification for the Champions League next season, rumours have been sparked once again. Sources have told ESPN FC that BVB are bracing themselves for offers for Hummels, and could be willing to sell their defender.

According to additional reports in the English press, United boss Louis van Gaal is willing to bid up to €41 million.

And with just two more years left on Hummels' contract, Bild reported that BVB could be willing to sell their star player for around €45 million.

However, speaking to the tabloid, Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc laughed off the speculation.

"According to reports, Manchester United took the gloves off [opened talks] at least 13 times," he said. "Mats is an incredibly important player for us, with whom we continue to plan."
